TE Connectivity’s (TE) Battery energy storage system (BESS) solutions, which improves power allocation flexibility in power generation, power transmission, and power consumption, help meet this increased demand for alternative energy sources.
The liquid-cooled BESS—PKNERGY next-generation commercial energy storage system in collaboration with CATL—features an advanced liquid cooling system for heat dissipation.
A novel self-driven liquid metal cooling connector is developed for high power charging. A principle experiment is conducted to demonstrate the driving and cooling performances. Both 3D multi-physics simulation and theoretical models for LMCC are established. A high flow rate (0.75 L/min) and pressure head (44.7 kPa) are achieved for 300A.
For charging copper cable with active water cooling, the water tube must be integrated with the cables and remove the Joule heat through heat conduction and convective heat exchange. However, the liquid conductor of self-driven LM cable can carry and directly remove the heat without heat conduction and convective heat exchange.
The DC power (WYQ-12V300A, Yangzhou Yuhong Power Supply Manufacturing) could provide the current up to 300 A, which is used to simulate the charging system. The positive and negative electrodes of the power source are connected to the copper electrode at both ends of the driving connector and transition connector, respectively.
