The rooftop PV plant is located at an industrial park in China's Shandong province. Chinese PV inverter manufacturer Sungrow said it has supplied its string inverters for a 120 MW rooftop PV plant located in Jining, in China's Shandong province.
Meanwhile, solar PV has been widely adopted to generate electricity worldwide, especially for developing countries that are in need to transition for clean energy and expand electricity to poor areas, such as India, Bangladesh, and Jordan [ 22, 23 ].
It generates 10 billion kWh of electricity a year on average, saving 3.11 million tons of standard coals and reducing 7.8 million tons of carbon dioxide emission annually. The park was built in 2011 by Huanghe Hydropower Development Company Limited, a subsidiary of China's State Power Investment Corporation Limited.
“Located in the industrial park covering 43 rooftops, the PV plant is expected to generate 110 GWh per year, powering the industrial park facilities and feeding the excess electricity it produces into the grid as one of the grid-parity projects,” Sungrow said in a statement.
Meanwhile, there is a need to continue to foster “PV+” industries (i.e. combining solar PV with other industries such as agriculture and aquaculture), thereby promoting local employment and industrial development.
The solar plant is currently the world's largest operational rooftop PV array. JD.com, one of China's biggest online retailers recently announced it will install a 200 MW rooftop array across dozens of its logistics buildings and warehouses. The facility is expected to come online in 2022 and should generate more than 160 GWh per year.
